Castaway Ladies 0 v Carlton Park I 6

Park started the game well and moved the ball around the pitch. They immediately put pressure on the home side’s defence firing in some quick shots on goal. Some excellent saves by the home keeper kept them in the game. Park then opened the scoring when the ball was cleared from defence. Lynn Whittingstall slipped the ball to Denise Manning who held on to it and pushed it through to Sarah Whatling. Her cross was met by Vicky Le Fanu who pushed the ball past the keeper. Park dominated the play and again were very solid in defence cutting out any breaks that the home side had. Karen Fletcher was again a mere spectator in goal. Mel Rodwell was unlucky not to add her name to the score sheet when her swiped shot just went wide of the goal. Park were then unlucky not to be two goals up when a shot by Vicky Le Fanu was deflected in off Denise Manning’s stick but the umpire deemed that the ball had hit a foot on the way through. Park were awarded several penalty corners but again the excellent saves made by the keeper kept Castaways in the game. Park moved the ball well with Emma Tuckwell causing problems bursting down the right side of midfield. The rest of the defence of Kirsty Marshall, Mercedes Buckle, Tori Walton and Kerry Whatling were allowed to push up the field and tracked back well to deal with any breakaway by Castaways. The half finished with Park being a goal to the good but they knew that they could add more by just passing the ball quicker across the pitch.

In the second half Park picked up the pace and found acres of space as Castaways had dropped to 10 players due to injury. Lynn Whittingstall opened the scoring in the second half when an excellent pass from Emma Tuckwell found Lynn on the left post who then guiding the ball into the net. Park were now playing much better and were moving the ball well around the pitch. Denise Manning then added her name to the score sheet when the ball came across the goalmouth for her to tap in on the left post. Vicky Le Fanu added her second when the ball failed to be cleared. The pass back into the ‘d’ found Vicky Le Fanu who rounded the keeper and slotted home with a reverse stick tap in. She quickly added a third to complete her hat trick when an excellent pass from Mercedes Buckle found Vicky Le Fanu unmarked and her shot easily beat the keeper. With the rolling subs working well Park kept attacking and finished the scoring when a ball from Emma Tuckwell was latched onto by Denise Manning. Her cross found Wendy Corneby who slipped in to the advancing Lynn Whittingstall who finished in style. Another good team performance and another three points.
